Picture
This collage, dedicated to Crad Kilodney, was sent to me by artist Robert Hay, who has known Crad since they were friends at university.

"There is a symbol in it of transcendence that we all seek at the moment of evolutionary change and the finality of death.
The mouse with the long tail is symbol of a mammal that has most contributed to the advancement of science, in the face of religious opposition to the "theory" of evolution of our species. Crad was both a scientist and an artist/writer. I think he would have appreciated my reference to this in the collage. Other imagery in it reveals a colorful split in society between the physical and the spiritual in abstract shapes departing from each other. Though death be a departure, politics is another way of critically dividing our world. At the end of his life, Crad wouldn't allow political thoughts to mar the meditative approach to his changing circumstances. He believed in an afterlife and joining with his departed friends and family in a cosmic unity with mankind. I hope this collage evokes that belief, symbolized by the pink/feminine triangle above the picture plane. IE: God is Love. This is not God the father. Mother Earth giving up the soul...Now Crad will live on through his writings and books."
